My refusal to mark male or female on the Canada Census form in 2001.  Includes my letters to Canadian Human Rights & and my local MP, at the time.  Both letters ignored, and Trans people are still not counted in the Canada census to this day.

In 2002 I decided to put together a beauty contest, that featured Trans Women.  This was the first of its kind in the World (with the exception of Thailand.  But even then contestants included boys in drag, and not just Trans women, living full time as women).  Plus the term “Shemale” is considered derogatory now (not unlike calling women “chicks” or “broads”).  The term “Shemale” was mostly describing Trans Women into sex work or internet porn.  But it was the most commonly used term, at this time especially on the internet  So I opted to use it for this pageant, to make it more clear to the online masses that this included only Trans women.  No drag queens/female impersonators where invited to enter this unique contest.  And at the time only Drag Pageants where being held anywhere.  I figured this style of pageant would draw attention to the difference between people living as the other gender and not just dressing up.  It also gave us a platform to educate people a little more about who we are.

Media coverage to other events organized by myself.  Including T-Girl club nights and even T-Girl Strippers.  It was difficult to find clubs in and around Toronto, who would let our “type of party”, be held in there mostly main stream hetrosexual club.  But we occasionally found spots that the money outweighed the controversal style of party, we presented.  This all happened before finally opened up our own space Goodhandy’s Nightclub (now Club120), in Toronto.

Television Director/Producer  William Burke and Television Producer Brian O’Dea put together an idea, to sell Canadian networks a reality based show , about Goodhandy’s Nightclub.  This was a brilliant presentation, but was not picked up by any Canadian networks, at this time.  At the risk of sounding bitter, amazing considering some of the crap the Canadian networks have been spewing out, calling them reality shows.

Some media covering of my involvement as  Toronto Pride Marshal in 2010.  My business partner Todd Klinck and myself where not their first choice for this honoured position.  The community was split because of the controversy involving a group that was being asked not to march in the parade, that year.  My partner and I took this opportunity to lead the parade, strictly to get our message across regarding the decriminalization of sex-workers.  Otherwise we never would have had the chance to get our important message across.  It was like letting your crazy relatives out of the attic for one day, when “normal folk” come to visit.
